Baking a Whole Chicken
Ingredients
1 whole chicken
Pork Barrel BBQ All American Seasoning Mix
Dried Basil
Black pepper
Crushed red pepper
½ lime
Steps
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit
Open chicken packaging, remove any gizzards and cavity pieces
Thoroughly rinse whole bird under cool water
Place chicken, breast side up, in roasting pan
Squeeze lime juice all over the chicken
Cover the entire chicken with All American Seasoning Mix
Sprinkle on basil, black pepper, and red pepper on top of chicken
Fill bottom of roasting pan with water, about a half inch high in the pan (be careful when you add the water that you don’t wash off all the seasonings on the chicken)
Bake chicken at 450 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 to 15 minutes
Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and continue to cook chicken for 20 to 30 minutes per pound (some chickens will have a plastic indicator in the breast that will pop up when the chicken is done, otherwise, you want to make sure the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit)
Remove chicken from oven and let cool for a few minutes before slicing
If you want to make homemade chicken broth, save all the drippings and liquid from the pan as well as all bones and any skin
