Cauliflower Parmesan
Ingredients
1 large head of cauliflower
1 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
2 cups tomato sauce
3 tablespoons olive oil
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (see Chicken Caprese for my homemade Italian Seasoning)
Steps
Remove any out leaves from the large dense cauliflower head
Wash the cauliflower head
Trim the bottom stem of the cauliflower so it is nice and flat against the remainder of the head
Carefully cut 1 inch thick slices of cauliflower parallel to the middle stem while keeping the inner stem intact
The cauliflower may start to fall apart a bit which is okay, do your best to get as many intact cauliflower steaks as possible
Spread the cut cauliflower steaks and any loose florets on a metal baking sheet
Combine 3 tablespoons of olive oil with ½ teaspoon of garlic powder, ½ teaspoon of salt, ½ teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning
Brush the herbed oil all over the cauliflower pieces
Bake the cauliflower in the oven at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes
Remove the cauliflower from the oven and carefully flip each piece over
Sprinkle some of the freshly grated parmesan cheese all over the cauliflower being sure to cover everything in a nice even layer
Return the cauliflower to the oven at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for another 18 to 20 minutes
Remove the cauliflower from the oven again
Next spread some tomato sauce all over each piece of cauliflower. At this point, you can use as much or as little sauce as you would like
Following, sprinkle some shredded mozzarella cheese on top. Again, you can use as much or as little cheese as you would like
Place the cauliflower parmesan in the oven on broil for 3 minutes or until the cheese is melted and golden brown
