Cranberry Sauce

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces cranberries

  • ⅔ cup white granulated sugar

  • ⅓ cup brown sugar

  • ½ cup water

  • ½ cup orange juice

  • 1 tablespoon orange zest

  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon

Steps

  1. Combine sugars, water, and orange juice in a medium-sized saucepan

  2. Turn the heat on medium-high and stir until the sugars are dissolved

  3. Bring the liquid to a boil and add the cranberries, cinnamon, and orange zest

  4. Return the liquid to a boil

  5. Reduce the heat to a simmer at medium-low to low and continue to cook the cranberries, stirring occasionally

  6. Cook for 10 to 15 minutes until most of the berries have burst (be careful as the cranberries may splatter) and the sauce has reduced

    1. The longer you cook the cranberries, the thicker the sauce will be

  7. Transfer the sauce to a heat-safe bowl and allow to cool for at least 20 to 30 minutes at room temperature

  8. The cranberry sauce continues to thicken as it cools

  9. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving

  10. Serve the cranberry sauce cold or at room temperature
