Holiday Crunchy Munchy
Almond Gruyere Bread
Ingredients
½ cup sliced almonds
1 cup water
½ cup (1 stick) butter
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 cup flour
4 eggs
½ cup sliced green onions (scallions)
¾ cup shredded gruyere cheese
Steps
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
Spread the almonds on a baking sheet and toast for 10 minutes or until light brown
Stir the almonds once halfway in between toasting
Heat the water, butter, and mustard to a rolling boil in a large saucepan
Stir in the flour with a wooden spoon, heating until the mixture forms a ball
Remove from heat
Beat in eggs, one at a time, until mixture is smooth and elastic
Stir in green onions and ¼ cup of the almonds
Drop by spoonfuls on baking sheet lined with parchment paper to form an 8-inch ring with a 4-inch circle in the center
Sprinkle the shredded gruyere cheese and remaining almonds on top of the ring
Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 1 hour, until well browned and hollow sounding when tapped on side
