Homestyle Brussels Sprouts

Ingredients

  • 1 pound brussels sprouts (trimmed and quartered)

  • 4 ounces bacon (4 to 6 slices)

  • 2 slices ciabatta bread (approx. 1 cup cubed)

  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

  • Salt

  • Pepper

  • Vegetable oil, optional

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit

  2. Spread the bread cubes on a baking sheet

  3. In a large nonstick skillet, cook bacon over medium heat. Cook until crispy

  4. Remove cooked bacon and transfer to a paper towel lined plate

  5. Allow bacon to cool and then break up into ½ inch size pieces

  6. Pour half of the bacon grease from the skillet over the bread cubes on the baking sheet and toss well

  7. Sprinkle the bread cubes with garlic powder and toss again

  8. Bake the bread cubes for 10 to 12 minutes until the cubes are golden, tossing one or twice while cooking

  9. Add the brussels sprouts to the skillet and heat over medium-low heat

  10. Sprinkle in some salt and pepper and stir well

  11. If you need a drop of vegetable oil, feel free to add it, otherwise cook the sprouts in the remaining bacon grease

  12. Cook the brussels sprouts until warm and slightly soft, about 5 to 6 minutes

  13. Combine brussels sprouts, bacon, and bread cubes and gently toss
